Aman

The great western continent.

The Valar went there after their dwelling upon Almaren was destroyed. Because they could not at that time overcome Melkor, they fortified their dwelling, and upon the shores of the sea they raised the Pelóri, the Mountains of Aman. These mountains were the highest on Earth. The highest of these mountains were Taniquetil, where Manwë set his throne.

Aman and Eressëa were taken away and removed beyond the reach of Men for ever, after Ar-Pharazôn reached it with his fleet from Númenór.
