It is Eru who created the Ainur and taught them to make music. He led them in the Music of the Ainur and gave Being to Arda. The Two Kindred, Elves and Men are known as His children, the Eruhini.

Although little is mentioned of Eru outside the Ainulindalë and the Valaquenta Silmarillion, the Akallabêth mentions three yearly festivals held in honor of Eru at Meneltarma known as Erukyermë, Erulaitalë, and Eruhantalë.
