(S. ???')
(III 7261 - III 946; ruled since III 861)
Dúnadan, eldest son of King Eärendur of Arnor. When Eärendur died, because of several disagreements between his 3 sons and the general detachment tendencies in the provinces, Arnor was divided in 3 kingdoms (Arthedain, Cardolan and Rhudaur).
Amlaith, being the eldest son, got the main core of lands and the most important fortresses. Amlaith thus became the first king of Arthedain and his surname implies that it was him who moved the capital to Fornost. To notify this lower status, he didn't have a Quenya name, but kept his Sindarin form, something that was followed by his successors till Aragorn II. He was succeeded by his son Beleg.
