The Drúadan Forest is named after the people who lived there. They called themselves Drughu, which in Sindarin became Drû. When the Eldar dicovered that the Drû-folk were steadfast enemies of Morgoth, and especially of the Orcs, the title adan was added, and they were called Drúedain (singular Drúadan).
The Drúadan Forest grew around the beacon-hill Eilenach, and it was situated in Anarion, approximately 50 miles northwest of Minas Tirith, north of the easternmost part of Ered Nimrais. In the southern part of the forest was the Stonewain Valley where Ghân-buri-Ghân led the Rohirrim in secrecy past the Orcs that guarded the highway from Rohan to Gondor, thus enabling the Rohirrim to arrive unhindered and with a full muster at the Battle of the Pelennor.
