Sindarin: gwath-ló, grey-flood

River, junction of Mitheithel and Bruinen. It was originally named Agathurush 'river of shadow' by the Numenoreans in Adunaic, because of the shadows that fell to its waters, from the many trees that grew on its banks.

The river ran thru the original Great OldForest that stretched from the BlueMountains to Fangorn. Númenorean mariners travelling up the river found it dark and shaded by tall stands of dark trees on either side, so they named it "Grey Flood".
