Garm

The name of the (wolf-)hound at the entrance to Gnipahellir, the underworld and sometimes equated with Fenrir.

Garm breaks free at Ragnarok, the doom of the Gods, and kills and is killed by the war god Tyr.

Garm reminds of Kerberos? in Greek mythology.

Personal interpretations

I wonder whether Tyr's wrestling with Garm inspired Tolkien for Glorfindel's fight with the Balrog... -- Walter

And to me it sounds more like Carcharoth vs. Huan --LR
Well, yes that too bears some similarities in a way. But I always found Carcharoth vs. Beren rather alike Fenrir vs. Tyr: Carcharoth bites off Beren's right hand, like Fenrir, the Fenrisulfr, bites off Tyr's right hand when the Aesir are trying to bind him. -- Walter
