Tolkien tells us he "anglicized" Westron, so that readers of LotR would take a Hobbit-centric view. Numenor becomes "Westernesse" (western isle), for example.

The appendices state the real name of Shire is Suza. But this is >still< an anglicization: the english word "suzerain" refers to "A nation that controls another nation in international affairs but allows it domestic sovereignty."
