Kingdom of men, at the southern end of Erebor, rebuilt by Bard I after the death of Smaug the dragon.

Unfortunately, Tolkien paid relatively scant attention to Dale in his writings. An excellent resource on the topic is Michael Martinez's essay, "Resurrecting Dale, City of A Thousand Untold Stories" .
