Anar

(Q. 'sun')

According to the Elvish tradition, the Sun is the last shining fruit that grew from Laurelin before she died, grace to the powers of Nienna and Yavanna. This fruit was placed in a vessel made by Aulë, and upheaved to Ilmen by Varda. Maia Arien was to guide it, hence the Sun is considered a female being among the Elves and the civilisations influenced by them. Arien begun her mission when the Moon has already completed 7 circles. She started from Valinor to the East, to go to and fro from West to East and back again, thus being on the sky constantly. The Valar though decided to change her course, and so after every setting she travelled below the western seas, and rose again from the East every morning. Her light cased dismay to Morgoth, who descented to the uttermost depths of Angband.

The rising of the Sun happened when the Men awoke in Hildorien. It also signaled the beginning of the FirstAge, and the end of the {Sleep of Yavanna}?, because the nature started to flourish again.

Called in Valarin Aþâraigas and in Sindarin Anor. The Dúnedain called her Ûrê. She was also called Daystar and Heart of Fire and Vása, that awakens and consumes; for the Sun was set as a sign for the awakening of Men and the waning of the Elves.
