Christopher John Reuel Tolkien was born 1924 as the third son of John Ronald Reuel Tolkien. He was educated in Oxford and during WW2 he served in the Royal Air Force as a pilot. After the war he read English at the Trinity College in Oxford and later he lectured at Oxford in Anglo-Saxon, Middle-English and Old Norse. From 1975 he devoted his time to editing his father's unpublished works (e.g. The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, The History of Middle-earth).
